Teachers, student organizers ready for 2nd Street Art Fest
The final preparations are being made for the 2nd Street Art Festival. The event is being held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. April 22 in downtown Lebanon.

“I am so excited for students of all ages to be side-by-side with professional artists in such a great community event,” said Vicky Rhoads, Lebanon High School art teacher. “There are so many people that have put in a lot of long hours to make it work.”

Rhoads said there are more than 60 student volunteers signed up to organize events. She said there are about 25 booths for artists to demonstrate, display and sell artwork.

“My biggest challenge are students that back out at the last minute,” Rhoads said. “I really haven’t had that many problems because I’ve got a line of other students wanting to participate.”

The types of art at the festival includes: painting, jewelry, drawing, pottery and photography. Special to this year is an artist drawing portraits and another will be making paper ceramics.

“We are doubled checking that everyone is ready,” Rhoads said. “I’m making sure that businesses and organizations the “thank you’s” they deserve.”

This annual event is a collaborative project between the Lebanon R-3 school system and the Lebanon Arts Council. The project is being organized by Lebanon High School students with assistance from the Lebanon Arts Council, Lebanon Art Guild and Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce.

Rhoads said the last thing to be done before the festival is marking off booth space. She said about 12 art fest student leaders and three teachers plan to mark off booth spaces Friday in downtown Lebanon.
